Children’s Sabbath

Each year First Christian Church, along with other Discples of Christ churches, observes Children’s Sabbath.  The Children’s Sabbath aims to unite religious congregations of all faiths across the nation in shared concern for children and common commitment to improving their lives and working for justice on their behalf.  This year’s Children’s Sabbath theme was Precious in God’s Sight: Answering the Call to Cherish and Protect Every Child.

“Dear Lord, Be Good to Me. The Sea is so Wide and my Boat is so Small.”

This year, Children’s Sabbath was celebrated on Sunday, October 18, 2015.  Between that date and September 13th, we participated in Light a Candle for Children in each service, in addition to collecting items for Easton Elementary School, with whom we partner for the Backpack Program.  Items collected included notebooks, pencils, glue sticks, washable markers, pens, post-it pads, large crayons, blunt-tipped scissors, and gently used clothing.
